Settling In Sessions
Our nursery offers settling in sessions. Parents can bring their child for a couple of hours first, gradually inroducing the child to a new environment. Settling in sessions are helping your child to adapt to the surrounding and become more familiar with the staff and other children.
We are lucky to have our own Nursery Teachers who work closely with our children and their key workers to ensure that children make good progress within all aspects of their development in readiness for school.
Step It Up Dance
Every Tuesday at Spylaw and South Gillsland our 2-5 year old’s can take part in Step It Up Dance session. These classes are a fun and relaxed way to encourage physical movement and confidence.
Our nurseries encourages children to celebrate festivals throughout the year. This is one of the best ways for children to learn about different religions and cultures by celebrating various world religious festivals, food tasting from different countries, and dressing up in the national dress of their friends.
Sing along with the Spylaw Nursery musician Amy! Every Thursday morning – 15 minute session for the under 2s groups and 30 minute session for the over 2s groups. She plays her guitar and sings nursery rhymes, action songs and/or seasonal songs with the children.
We celebrate the big move to primary school with a special graduation ceremony each year—caps, gowns, the works! Parents and caregivers are invited to take part, and a professional photographer is on hand to capture special moments.
Bumblebee sports is a fun-filled coaching programme designed to introduce children to a range of sports and physical activities. Our South Gillsland Nursery love these weekly visits.
Jo Jingles provides our children with fun, interactive music, singing and movement classes within our South Gillsland Nursery.
Our children at Spylaw Road nursery are given the opportunity to explore another language through weekly French lessons which are included in our nursery fees. Our French Teacher educates our children through engaging activities and songs.
Eco Schools is the largest sustainable schools programme in the world and is designed to encourage action on sustainable development education issues. We love getting involved in Eco Schools projects and learning about how to protect the environment. We are proud to hold the Eco School Green Flag.
E-Learning Journals & Tablets
E-Learning Journals allow you to see your child’s activities at nursery with the click of a button. Staff upload images and notes about your child's participation in activities at nursery for you to access wherever you are.
We are lucky to have bi-lingual staff at our Spylaw Road nursery who are able to support children in their first language, or in exploring new languages. This not only helps children settle well into nursery, but also provides opportunity to better understand and celebrate children's cultures and heritage. We have staff fluent in French, Spanish, German, Urdu, Punjabi and Sign Language.
Our interactive Smartboards offer exciting and simulating learning experiences tailored to challenge and engage little ones.
Out nurseries enjoy great ties with the local community and we are often out and about visiting local parks, shops and libraries
At our Spylaw Road nursery we accept your courier deliveries to make things that little bit easier for busy families.
Taking part in fundraising activities helps children to learn about others that are less fortunate than themselves and understand how we can help them. Fundraising events are good fun and are a great way to get children, families and communities together. Our nurseries fundraise for a variety of causes but will consistently raise funds for Children In Need and SANDS.
Taking care of our hamster is an exciting activity for children at Gillsland Road nursery while developing empathy and social skills. Caring for animals can be a very calming and relaxing experience for children as well as an opportunity to assess risk. This provides many vital learning opportunities and skills that supports children's transition to school and adult life.
In recognition that education begins in the home, we are fully committed to a partnership approach with parents. Parents are kept up to date with monthly newsletters, parent committee and annual parent’s evenings. Parents are also able to keep up to date with activities going on in the nursery by following our social media accounts; Gillsland Facebook, Gillsland Twitter, Bertram Group Facebook and Bertram Group Twitter.
Our pre-school class perform the Christmas Nativity every year. We celebrate Christmas by putting on a Christmas Nativity for friends and family each year. There's always much excitement in preparing for the show
The Enjoy-a-Ball program at our Spylaw Road nursery develops sports-specific skills and confidence across numerous ball sports in a positive and fun environment.
